Not Just Noise

While handing out stickers at the Deathstar, my pass decided to bail out of my pocket. Unlike most people, I don't keep mine on some dangely thing hanging from my neck or waist. I'm not down with the dangleys. Took several runs through the park, and glad to say I'm getting back on form. Pulled all my comfort tricks, and didn't eat it once. I do a lot of eating. At least lately. Surprisingly, someone turned my pass into lost and found, albeit minus the Volcom tether I had on it but never used (which probably would've prevented this whole situation). Oh well, small price to pay to get my season pass back.

Snow/skate/surfing is art. I define art as creative expression. There's a lot of creative people out there, but if they're not saying anything then it's just noise. Likewise, there's a lot of expressive people out there who don't know how to focus and communicate. A good artist, to me, creates for the purpose of expression. There's a difference between art and design. Great snowboarders perform tricks that are fresh and original, while putting their own twist on them. Their style. Just like any other behavioral movement, when a rider's angry or scared or happy, you can tell it from how he rides. This is why I say the best snowboarding happens now, towards the end of the season, when the girls are dumping the guys and going onto the next one. The level of riding increases exponentially with the emotion. I really enjoy riding and being with creative people.

I don't believe the art part of snowboarding should stop with the action itself. It should be reflected in how we present ourselves. This is a pic of the nose of my board. (All white bindings are siiiiiick!) The words, dead flower, and 5317 (my clever illusion) were done in Sharpie. The others are stickers. (Check out the base here) Slowly, as the season progresses, it tends to get covered with more of what I wanna say. The irony is that by the time my board is "me", it's so beat down it gets replaced. New board, new season, new relations, new art.
