Mission Statements
Yet another way to help a young startup not lose sight of themselves is to have a mission statement in the form of a brief explaination of why a company exists and its goals. However, i think that too many companies these days are going way too public with their statements, which initially may seem like a great simple idea to promote, but in the end comes at the expense of branding. mission statements are for the company itself, not the public. Branding is the idea of a product or service in the mind of the consumer. And if a mission statement is the core of a company, then those values should be apparent in your product/service. if not, then you're not doing a good job of branding. What it comes down to is this: if your company is about something, then be about it, and people will see it. If you have to resort to publically displaying your mission statement, then something is wrong. Keep your mission statements to yourselves. Jerks.
