It's Just A Bad Idea

Generally speaking, the one event feature that's guaranteed to ruin it for me is the concept of: the 'open' bar. Last night I attended the 7th Transworld Snowboarding Rider's Poll Awards ceremony in downtown San Diego. It was a prime opportunity for me to mingle with industry types. Added to which, it was one of those nights that started with the strategy of having a couple drinks and going to bed early. This is where the open bar comes into play. Lots and lots of beer and many many tequila shots later, I required assisted standing. I don't even remember who won the awards. I don't think I even saw that part of the event. Here's what I do remember: 1. The supposedly enforced dress code was 'red carpet attire', as stated on the invitation handed to me 10 minutes before I got there. I said 'supposedly' enforced because I was there, and I wasn't wearing red carpet attire unless said attire includes checked Vans slip-ons, a pair of Dickies I hemmed with a pair of dull scissors, a polyester t-shirt my sister bought in Vietnam, and a big boy shirt that my dad bought for himself at Woolworth's in 1970. "Big boy' means a shirt with a collar. And buttons. 2. The openess of the bar was supposed to cease at 9:30pm, pst. I recall that this was a false claim because I was pounding well until midnight at least and only paid tips. 3. A quarter of attendees were industry folk, a quarter were pro shreds, and half were ridiculously hot chicks from who knows where. I mean really hot, and this isn't the beer talking. 4. I remember that I don't remember how I got back to the hotel.

It was a lank kif night, overall, especially for a business function. Thanks to Transworld Snowboarding for hosting the event, and the Kimmy, associate art director of Transworld Snowboarding for inviting me.
