One day, last week, i got over tying my shoes. It's not that I don't like laces, it's just that i'm getting too lazy to tie them. I like to think that I'm too busy to tie them, but the reality is that, for now, I just don't feel like it. Flip flops are good, but when it's dry for months at a time, San Diego gets dusty and wearing them gets you dirty toes. The thrify look may be in, but homeless is not. Although, dirty toes remind me of a friend who once believed that all women should be kept barefoot and pregnant as the only way to thwart their conquest for world domination. Anyway, my solution: slip-ons.
Vans makes slip-ons. And they make checkered ones to match my other checkered garments. It was almost meant to be! I headed over to a skate shop (read: skate boutique. The super core shops are pretty much all out of business these days.) to check (eat the pun!) their selection of slip-ons. Immediately upon entering the shop, I saw 2 jail bait girls rockin' checked slip-ons themselves. No matter, I go ahead and buy a pair myself. It was then the shop guy told me that the Vans checkered slip-on is the hottest selling shoe in San Diego for high school kids. Well, hell, I guess I'm working the high school look these days.
In keeping with the school kids theme, I shamelessly adapted this entry's title from one of
Judy Blume's books. The one that's not Superfudge.
