The Future of Snowboarding

Some people ask me why Automaton focuses only on freestyle snowboards and not other kinds of boards. The answer is simple: FREESTYLE IS THE FUTURE OF SNOWBOARDING. Automaton snowboards are built with materials and construction that we feel are optimized for freestyle riding. The qualities designed into our boards make them forgiving and fun to ride; not over-teched, over-priced spaceships. And why do we believe freestyle is snowboarding's future? Because freestyle is the only approach to snowboarding today that allows for progression. Every year, tricks are getting bigger, more stylish, more inventive, and more consequential in a variety of terrain settings. "Freeriding" is what you do between hits, whether it's in the park or backcountry. It's those that search for tricks undone, new ways to revamp old tricks, and hone their own skills that are the progression. I respect what has come before and I appreciate what is now. But stagnation breeds disease, and progression is the road forward. If a rider wants a board strictly to ride in 1 direction on trails and in crappy conditions, then he/she may find comfort in another brand of board. It's fine. Just don't stop on a blind landing, screw up a hit, or my pow line. But if that rider is one of the thousands ripping it up, trying new tricks, discovering new terrain, and supporting the life we call snowboarding year after year, or at least appreciates progressive snowboarding, then look no further.
