It seems to me that the more powerful areas in the world get that power by offering a service/product to the world that's unique to them. Examples are financial services in the UK, oil from the Mid East, consumers in the US. Canada? They offer comedy. That's their contribution to the world. Canadians are funny people. They gave us great comedians like Jim Carrey, John Candy, Rick Moranis. C'mon, Rick Moranis is funny! That said, Dave should probably be Canadian but he's not. He's South African. But he slays me.
