Insider Info

Somehow I scored a pass to the sold out Comic Con yesterday and went to it. Comic Con is absolutely nuts. Insanity. I've been to the SD convention center before for action sports shows. Comic Con was about 10 times as packed. People are so into it, which is kinda cool. I mean, I read comic books like 15 years ago, but I definitely wasn't as into them as these people. At some points, I was seriously trying to hold back laughter, but it wasn't in vain. It's 'cause people were SO into it. I saw at least a dozen jedis cruising around. 3 storm troopers, Jabba the Hutt, Tomb Raider 5 times, the dudes from Battlefield Earth, Captain America, Sgt. Slaughter, Captain Jack Sparrow, and multiple Spider Mans. My fav was this dude that was an Elvis storm trooper. And it's not just weird dudes dressing up, there were cute girls dressed as tomb raider, princess leia in both metal bikini thing and white gown with hair buns, that blue shape shifter from X-Men, I can't keep track of them all. To my surprise, the public that attended Comic Con wasn't really the stereotypical nerdy geek dudes. I mean, yes, nerdy geek dudes were there. But the crowd was really a diverse cross-section of people. Skate punks, surfers, corpo suits, preppy kids, families, couples, urbanites, all sorts of people are taken in by the magic of the Myth. It's no different than when someone goes to a sporting event dressed like their favorite athlete, or how people imitate their heroes. I almost wish I was into this stuff so I could get the full experience. It's kinda like being in Europe during a World Cup. Everyone's so into it it's hard NOT to get into it. Here's a pic of Machu Pichu. For no reason. Sent to me by a buddy in Peru. Says there's loads of parties with hot South American girls on Machu. That's insider info!
