The
Misfits kick ass. For me, the quintessential Misfits song is "Last Caress". I have no idea what the point of that song is other than to piss people off. I like that. Not necessarily pissing people off, but making people feel. This really is what punk is all about, reminding people how to feel. Yeah, there's the "punk" style of music and clothing. But that's just on the surface. What makes punk are the ideas behind it, namely: DIY, being independent, embracing our differences, being able to think autonomously, and to not be afraid of standing alone. In my opinion, those that live these values are punk, regardless of what they wear or listen to. The punk ethos has had many attempts at emulation, but most are easily identified as fakes. Punk is the active resistance to the current society's movements. When people are tired of being force-fed corporate crap, homogenization in ideas and lifestyles, and selfish over-capitalist values, strong-willed individuals rise above and form the punk culture. Punk embraces parts of human nature that aren't being nourished by society. And now we've completed the circle. Punk makes people feel. Punk is a break down in society. Punk is a threat. Punk is war.
Punk is not the only way to make people feel, but it is a very effective method. Me? I'm tired of the way the snowboard culture is being shaped by most of the industry. I don't think it's true to what snowboarding was in the first place. I think it's an insult to everyone that considers themself a snowboarder.
Automaton is my answer. I will not stand for the bastardization of our lives any longer.
Every dollar is a vote. So will you support the companies that support snowboarding? Will you support the brands that are its progression? Punk is war, and the war is on. Because we live snowboarding, what we're fighting for is our lives. And in the end, we will reclaim what's rightfully ours: snowboarding.
