I couldn't believe my luck yesterday. Was cruising around Sugar Bowl on a fine wind packed powder Sunday morning. Taking my time, taking my lines. Rocked on up to the Lincoln lift a couple minutes after it opened, blasted through the singles line and got to the top. Even though I was like the 50th person to get on the lift, I couldn't help but notice that everyone was heading toward Silver Belt, and not taking the most obvious line: the one right below the lift! For those of you that aren't familiar with the 'Bowl, the Lincoln lift goes over the 4th Sister (a bunch of short steep chutes and rocks), trees, then a sharp wind lip into a wide chute. [I've rekindled my love affair with drops into steep pow]. Normally, you can't launch off the wind lip because the chute get's too tracked out to land in it. I can't really get into the details, but I bolted from the lift down to the gate, dropped the 4th Sister, and bs 180'd the wind lip, all in fresh virgin pow. (As opposed to unfresh virgin pow?). I heard the cheering from the lift over my headphones, playing this week's fav band,
Aqueduct. It was the 2nd time in 4 years I've gotten that line at Sugar Bowl. By the time I took the next lift up, my line had been tracked by 100 skiers.
I found this gem on the myspace page of Dan Broadwell, Capita Super Rep. It's funny because it's true. Know where your money goes!
