I so wanted to rant about stuff in this post, but I had such a good surf today, and after a good surf, I'm in a good mood for the rest of the day. Such a good mood that I can't find the focus to rant. However, I did come to a realization today: compared to European beaches, American beaches are weak. Let's make a note that as a rule, I generally tend to not hang out at beaches. To me, the beach is a piece of sand between me and the surf, then the surf and my car. And in the summer, San Diego city beaches are so packed with yahoos playing into the role of the SoCal dude, throwing things like horseshoes, and generally raising the level of jackassery. It's just not appealing. It's like f-ing Ft. Lauderdale. But in Barcelona, the beaches were great. Cervesas y chi chis. Music. And it's cool. Ok, granted we're allowed to drink canned beers on the beaches of SD. However, what happens when you mix beer, Americans, and a sexually repressed culture? Fights. And no chi chis to be found anywhere. Weak. Since I'm thinking about chi chis, what's the deal with nude beaches in the states? Why is it that the people that hang out at nudie beaches in SD are the kind of people you don't wanna see nudie? (Read: fat dudes.) Yeah, I'm talking about the one north of Black's. It's the kind of place where it's not uncommon to see a bunch of naked dudes playing volleyball. Note: you have to pass the nudie beach to get to Black's surf break. Maybe that's why I stopped surfing there like 3 years ago. Wow. I guess I did have a bit of rant in me.
